Jared Kong: Jujitsu, Startups, Fatherhood & the Power of Aligned Living

Updated: a few seconds ago

What happens when you’re a legal director, startup founder, jujitsu athlete, DJ, and dad to two young kids - all at once?

For Jared, it’s not about doing everything. It’s about doing the right things - in alignment with who he is.

“Each role I take on reflects who I am. Being a father and husband comes first. Everything else flows from how I want to show up in the world - building things I believe in, staying creative, moving my body, and staying connected to community.”

This philosophy of alignment fuels Jared’s high-performance lifestyle, even as he steps into his boldest challenge yet: launching his first business while actively fundraising. The path hasn’t been easy.

“There’s a quiet loneliness that comes with pitching the dream, raising the money, solving the fires - and still making it home in time for bedtime,” he says.
“The emotional challenge is keeping belief alive. Staying grounded. Letting go of the idea that progress has to look a certain way.”

“Freshpod is one less decision, and one more way to stay consistent.”

With so many hats on his head, time is precious - but for Jared, energy is the real currency.

“I block my days and protect time for what matters. Mornings are for deep work, movement, and school drop-offs. Afternoons are for meetings. Evenings are for my kids and partner. And late nights are mine - for creative work, reading, and reflection.”

He’s also meticulous about where his energy goes:

“If something drains me, I try to delegate or delete. If it fills me, I double down.”

And when it comes to physical resilience, Jared turns to Brazilian jujitsu.

“It teaches you how to stay calm under pressure - to be comfortable in discomfort,” he explains.
“That applies to everything: business, parenting, relationships. It’s a mental muscle I train on and off the mat.”

“Food became less about fuel, and more about family culture.”

Fatherhood changed the way Jared thinks about food and wellness.

“It’s no longer just about fuelling myself. It’s about modelling habits for the little humans who are always watching. We try to make meals moments of connection. Healthy living has become part of the family culture we’re building.”

That shift also simplified his approach to eating: more structure, less overthinking.

“I still enjoy my indulgences - I’m human! But consistency matters more than perfection. I focus on food that makes me feel good, think clearly, and show up for the people I care about.”

That’s where freshpod fits in.

“It’s been a gamechanger. I know it’s clean, quick, satisfying - and it saves me from the daily decision fatigue. Plus, it tastes great. And that matters when you’ve got 20 tabs open in your brain.”

“You don’t need to do everything at once. But don’t abandon what brings you joy.”

For anyone feeling like they’re stretched thin by too many passions or too little time, Jared has one core message: don’t give up - just zoom out.

“Ask yourself what season of life you’re in. You don’t have to do it all at once. But you do have to protect the things that bring you joy. They’re not distractions - they’re your compass.”

Sometimes, he says, your “too many passions” are actually the ingredients for a unique path only you can walk.

From startup sprints to bedtime stories, from jujitsu sparring to DJ decks - Jared’s journey reminds us that you can live a full, multidimensional life. It just takes intention, consistency, and fuel that helps you feel your best.

Because as Jared puts it:

“If you live in alignment, even the chaos has purpose.”
