Fuelled to Finish: How HYROX Medallist JD Cheong Baoyue Builds High Performance Through Discipline, Recovery, and Real Food

HYROX does not reward shortcuts.

It rewards discipline, consistency, and the ability to fuel the body properly under pressure.

This Singapore-based HYROX medallist, JD Cheong Baoyue, is a powerful example of what happens when training, mindset, and nutrition align.

By day she works as an analyst. Outside work, she is a wife, a dog owner to two Singapore specials, and an athlete who structures her life around movement and performance. As she puts it,

“Most of my free time revolves around movement and fitness. Coaching, training, walking the dogs, or just finding ways to stay active. It’s really become part of who I am and how I unwind.”

Her highly inspirational journey into hybrid training did not start with medals or podiums. It started with showing up. Group classes, casual runs, and a simple goal to complete a half-marathon each year. No complex plan. Just consistency.

“I didn’t know anything about structured training. I just showed up and moved my body.”

That foundation has now evolved into competing at one of the most demanding fitness formats in the world. Preparing for HYROX means training six times a week, balancing strength sessions, multiple runs, and intentional recovery.

“It’s a nice balance between pushing hard and still giving my body enough space to recover.”

What stands out most is her understanding of discipline. Not the loud kind, but the intelligent kind.

“Learning the difference between fatigue and just low motivation has been a game-changer for me.”

That self-awareness is often what separates sustainable performance from burnout.

Nutrition plays a central role in that sustainability. 🍃

“Nutrition is everything when it comes to training and recovery. The quality of food matters so much, especially when training volume and intensity are high.”

She openly shares how her mindset shifted from under-eating to fuelling for performance.

“Once you experience training properly fuelled, you never want to go back.”

That is where freshpod fits seamlessly into her routine. 🥗

Between work, training, and life, access to real food that supports performance matters.

“It’s convenient and tasty, which is the perfect combo when you’re juggling work and training. It makes eating well so much easier.”

Her go to bowl says it all.

“Sweet potato, broccoli, and brown rice for carbs, then chicken or salmon with edamame for protein. Simple, balanced and comforting.”

Beyond medals and training blocks, her philosophy is refreshingly grounded. “Small changes really add up. Those tiny habits compound over time and make a big difference. Keep stacking days.”

And for anyone just starting out, her advice is simple and powerful.

“It’s never too late to start. Fitness doesn’t have to be complicated; you just need to stay consistent. Enjoy the process, everything else is a bonus.”

This is what high performance really looks like.

Hard work. Smart recovery. And nutrition that keeps up.
