Not many can say they’ve dedicated five decades to caring for others, but Mei Siew can.
“I became a nurse not because I was top of the class,” she says with a smile, “but because I loved the uniform and wanted to serve.”

Hospital life is famously intense, but Mei Siew has found her rhythm over the years. Her secret? Fresh food, especially salads.
“Heavy meals full of carbs make you sleepy on shift,” she explains. “But a fresh salad from freshpod keeps me energised and alert. It’s made a real difference.”
As someone deeply familiar with health from both clinical and personal perspectives, Mei Siew believes nutrition plays a foundational role.
“Food, exercise, and medicine go hand in hand. But in Singapore, it’s hard to eat healthy, there’s just so much delicious food around every corner!”
That’s why the arrival of freshpod at
Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore has been a game-changer.
“I was impressed the moment I saw it. I have bought several bowls since then and will be buying more”
And her advice for the next generation of nurses, patients, or anyone trying to live well?
“Eat healthy, be active, stay happy. And once in a while, give yourself a treat. Eat what you want!”
For someone who’s spent half a century caring for others, it’s clear that Mei Siew’s philosophy is grounded, joyful, and refreshingly human.
And thanks to small steps, like having freshpod right where it’s needed, making healthy choices becomes just a little bit easier.
